As if being a working mother didn’t come with enough responsibilities, the pandemic ushered in a new set of challenges. Lack of childcare and the adjustment to homeschooling and remote working have led many moms to reconsider their professional lives. As a result, nearly 2.3 million women have left the workforce since the start of the pandemic and that figure doesn’t account for the layoffs and furloughs that affected women in the early months of 2020.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, based on information from the Current Population Survey, nearly 10 million U.S. mothers living with school-age children were not actively working in January 2021 — a 1.4 million increase from pre-pandemic levels.
While work-life balance has been difficult for many professionals adjusting to remote workspaces amid the pandemic, it’s been especially challenging for working moms.
There are some places, however, where it’s easier to be a working mom in 2022.
