Over the past several years, cannabis has become one of the fastest-growing and most talked about industries. CBD, in particular, has seen a huge surge as more consumers seek out the health benefits of hemp without the psychoactive side effects. And according to recent reports, beauty is the newest sector to be impacted by the CBD boom.
CBD-infused beauty and wellness products are on track to become a $25 billion industry. An increasing number of major beauty retailers like Sephora and Ulta have begun selling CBD beauty and skincare products on their shelves, which has contributed to cannabis’s momentum.
Read on as we explore several CBD beauty and wellness brands to watch. From skincare to body care, these companies and their products have been major contributors to the massive CBD beauty market.
1. Herbivore Botanicals
In 2011, Julia Wills and Alexander Kummerow began experimenting with skincare products in their Seattle kitchen. The couple originally launched an Etsy shop to sell their products, which amassed 13,555 sales and 4,000 five-star ratings, before they were contacted by Sephora in 2015. The beauty chain sold the brand’s original best-sellers, like their Bamboo Charcoal Bar and Lapis Facial Oil, without forcing them to compromise their all-natural, no-fillers, only-tested-on-humans, approach. Earlier this year, Herbivore Botanicals launched their first CBD-infused product, Emerald CBD, a reformulation of their best-selling, hemp-derived face oil.
Formulated without dyes, fragrances or preservatives, Emerald CBD contains 100 mg of premium, organic, Colorado-grown, full-spectrum CBD intended to target dryness, redness, and irritated or troubled skin. Herbivore Botanicals produce all of their products with indulgence and rejuvenation in mind, and customers can rest assured that all products are truly natural, vegan, and cruelty-free.
2. Saint Jane
Casey Georgeson brought a lot of industry experience to Saint Jane Beauty. She’d spent years developing brands like Cupcake Vineyards, Marc Jacobs Beauty, and Disney for Sephora, before launching Saint Jane Beauty in early 2019. For Georgeson, the brand was born the day she learned about the amazing benefits of CBD for the skin. After experimenting with various formulas, she found her “holy grail” in her Luxury Beauty Serum. The formula contains 20 botanicals like calendula, rosemary, and pomegranate seed extract, as well as 500 mg of full spectrum CBD. Each full dropper of the serum delivers 10 mg of CBD to the skin and provides both restorative and glow-boosting benefits.
Saint Jane is available at Sephora, Credo, Space NK, as well as select Barneys stores. The serum is quickly becoming one of the beauty industry’s biggest hitters. From The Zoe Report to Who What Wear, many of the beauty and wellness industry’s biggest tastemakers have fallen in love with Saint Jane and its skin-clearing serum.
3. Cannuka
Ulta Beauty’s first CBD skincare brand Cannuka launched in 2017. Husband-wife team Michael and Kelly (a dermatologist) Bumgarner originally used hemp in their products before a little experimentation revealed that CBD could compound the benefits their products offered. Today’s products all use 99.7 percent pure CBD and Manuka Honey, which is harvested only in New Zealand and is packed with the benefits of tea tree oil. Additional ingredients include everything from grapefruit oil to orange peel butter to aloe vera and sunflower oil.
Cannuka’s products include an eye balm, lip balm, and healing skin balm as well as a cleansing bar and body cream. The brand, which is committed to delivering health and well-being through nature, has also made it their mission to legitimize the cannabis industry, creating a healthy populace and cleaner environment along the way.
4. The Good Patch
David Nicholson and Kelly Brock, both award-winning organic day spa owners, and Betsy Scanlan, an advocate of the hemp industry, teamed up to create a line of products that would provide the benefits of cannabis without the psychoactive side effects. Their range of patches, which help with everything from hangovers to menstrual cramps, and sleep to daily energy, are formulated with premium CBD and a range of other natural ingredients like melatonin, B1, green tea extract, and menthol.
Pure, safe, and organic, The Good Patch’s products are some of the easiest (peel, stick, relief) and most effective on the market. Support for the brand grew exponentially almost overnight, which encouraged the three founders to begin work on additional products like tinctures, salves, and balms.
