In the wake of 2008’s recession, it seemed like American workers were reluctant to take vacations, with many people worrying that taking a few days off would reflect poorly on them when it came time for a promotion or a raise. But over the past few years, more Americans have been taking advantage of paid time off (PTO). Although the United States does not require companies to provide PTO, businesses are catching on to the benefits of being more generous with vacation time: it makes for a happier, more productive staff and attracts better candidates for open positions.
The average American worker currently gets about ten vacation days, accruing more time the longer they’ve been at a company. But some businesses are now giving long-term employees unlimited PTO. Unlimited PTO allows employees to take off as much time as they need, as long as they hit their productivity targets. Here are five CPG companies in food and beverage that are offering this coveted perk.
1. Sixpoint Brewery
Sixpoint Brewery opened in Brooklyn in 2004, and they’ve been releasing creative new takes on craft beers ever since. From classic IPAs to stout brewed with oyster shells, they have something on tap to suit every taste. In addition to their pub in Red Hook, N.Y., they also have a handy app that allows users to order Small Batch cans in advance, find Sixpoint beers for sale across the country, and learn about new releases in advance. Sixpoint employees can take advantage of major company perks, including unlimited PTO, a tuition, training, and certification stipend, and a 401k program with company match.
2. Yumble
When HelloFresh co-founder Dan Treiman teamed up with entrepreneurial husband and wife team Joanna and David Parker, a mealtime solution for busy parents was born. Yumble is a meal delivery company for healthy, homemade dishes for kids. Yumble offers a variety of tasty, nutritious options, with everything from gluten-free snack packs, heart-shaped ravioli, to turkey cheddar pinwheels available in kid-sized portions at reasonable prices. Yumble offers its employees unlimited PTO, along with fitness subsidies, a game room, a pet-friendly office, and, of course, free food.
3. Sundaily
Dr. Emilia Javorsky, a physician and research scientist at Harvard Medical School, wanted to develop an internal, plant-based solution for those hot summer days when sunscreen just isn’t enough to protect your skin. The result was Sundaily (formerly named Sundots), a gummy vitamin that gives you an extra boost of protection against harmful UV rays. This exciting startup doesn’t just offer unlimited PTO — employees can also enjoy a generous parental leave package and the option to work remotely.
4. 82 Labs, Morning Recovery
82 Labs, an innovative new CPG startup, is developing products to help consumers be more productive and perform at their best every day. 82 Labs just launched their first product: the tasty, peach flavored Morning Recovery beverage. Morning Recovery is specifically formulated to help you get over a rough night of drinking and head into the office feeling refreshed and recharged. The company is hard at work on exciting new offerings for 2019. In addition to unlimited PTO, 82 Labs also gives employees a wide range of choices for medical, dental, and vision plans, team lunches, breakfasts, and happy hours, and plans fun company outings in Los Angeles.
5. Thrive Market
Thrive Market is an online, membership-based retailer making natural and organic food available at affordable prices. They also have their own line of unique snacks, sauces, and supplements, so whether you’re looking for grass-fed collagen, Himalayan pink salt, Paleo-approved mayo, or raw cashew butter, you can find it at Thrive Market. Unlimited PTO is just one benefit of working there. Employees enjoy engaging health and wellness initiatives at the office, like “Yoga Wednesdays” and “Kombucha Thursdays,” an onsite gym, and free Thrive Memberships.
